Congratulations to Cara Mays on a successful grant application!

The following is Mays' application:

"I am a writer/filmmaker. I've been making short films since high school (1997) but have really been more committed to filmmaking since 2011 as a passion that turned into a job. While my full-time job at a non-profit involves filmmaking, I often take time off to write and direct short films of my own. The films that I write and make are often visions that won't leave my mind and dreams. They are always therapeutic in many ways to make but also challenging since the film industry is in infancy stages here in Guam -- there is limited access to funding and resources and quite a bit of training work to do with crew and talent.

The current film that I am working on is a nostalgic comedy that attempts to capture the childhood joy of my grandmother's house. Making this film has helped me to grieve the loss of my grandma and enabled me to share laughs, tears and stories with others around people that they've lost.

I am currently living in a small US territory and I hope that my films inspire people from my community and other small communities, especially children and young people, to know that our stories are unique and valued even if they aren't made for a broader audience. I hope that my films make people smile, cry and share memories and stories of the people and places that are most dear to them.

Grant funds will be used to help to cover editing expenses of the film project that I am currently working on. I received a small grant for this project that has been used up for production expenses and have been using personal funds to try to complete edits on this project so that I can submit to film festivals."

Integrity: Arts and Culture Association is pleased to assist in funding Mays' proposal! We wish her the best in her future artistic endeavors.

"This is a song that I wrote and directed about the native birds of Guam, many that are now endangered. It plays at the end of a a kids program on Native Birds.'

Please Note: Mays' moving (work in progress) film entitled "My Nana, the Sun" is not being shared at this time, as IACA would like to honor her intellecual property and give her the opportunity to make edits and present the film as she desires at film festivals.
